REWIND:

David grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. His mom was a celebrity in her own right; having been discovered singing at a party at age eighteen by a Decca record's scout, mom, Diane, scored a few recording deals of her own.

She got caught up in the payola scandal of the early sixties, and throughout the seventies and eighties, the glory days of the "Borscht Belt," mom performed in the Catskill Mountains, opening for comedic legends such as Buddy Hackett, Alan King, Robert Kline, Jackie Mason, and Milton Berle.

Watching these legends perform, for most of their childhood, David, and his sister, Stephanie, received a first hand education in the biting, sarcastic wit that is classic, Jewish comedy.

Incidentally, dad, Richard, who had no formal music training whatsoever, but who knew mom's act better than anyone, would don a tux and conduct mom's orchestras, completely fooling everyone.  Along with Aunt Barbara and Uncle "Shep" in tow -Shep being relegated to schlepping the fifty pound suitcase of sheet music, the group made for quite the motley crew.
